A Simple Formula for Deep Cleaning Your Bathroom

Bathrooms often need deep cleaning more than any other room in the home, but without following an effective formula, it can be hard to get the job done in a systematic way.

Hiring a cleaning service is one of the best ways to ensure that your bathroom is always cleaned to a high standard, but if you prefer to clean it yourself, you can try following the steps below to clean it efficiently and effectively:

Begin by decluttering

This is actually an important step to follow for cleaning any room in your home, as clutter simply makes the job harder. In bathrooms in particular, however, it’s important to minimize clutter for hygiene purposes, so wherever possible, store items inside closed cabinets and drawers.

Tackle the toilet

Using your favourite toilet cleaner, pour the recommended amount into the toilet bowl and leave it to sit for a few minutes. Then, scrub all around the inside of the bowl with a brush before flushing. Next, take an all-purpose cleaner and a cloth or sponge and clean the exterior of the toilet, including the seat and flush.

Clean all surfaces

You want the surfaces in your bathroom to be hygienically clean, so it’s important to use a powerful cleaning agent to ensure that they’re sanitized. Note that most cleaning products need to be sprayed onto a surface and left to work for a few minutes (check the manufacturers instructions) before you wipe them off. You can also try using the power of steam: simply turn your shower onto hot with the bathroom door closed, and leave the steam to work its magic for around 15-20 minutes.

Make the mirror gleam

Vinegar and water combined make for a wonderfully effective glass cleaner; simply spray it on (or apply it with a cloth) and wipe it as you would if you were cleaning a window.

Beautify the shower

Again, water and vinegar make a powerful solution for getting rid of hard water stains in your shower, and you can use it on every surface to get the entire shower clean. If your shower head is clogged, however, it’s best to soak it overnight in a bucket of water and vinegar, or use a bag and place the head in before tying it tightly. The next day, simply wash off the scum and you’ll find it should work much more effectively.

Mop the floor

Using a bucket filled with warm water and your favourite cleaning product, mop the bathroom floor; beginning at the point furthest away from you, and working your way backwards towards the door.

Wash all towels

Towels need to be washed regularly, and a hot, long wash is recommended for getting rid of any bacteria that might be lurking on them. To prevent them from getting smelly and staying damp between use, hang them out on the line after use to air them or on a dryer in a different room.

Experts recommend that you deep clean your bathroom at least once a month, but if you hire a deep cleaning service, you can have them come in and clean it from top to bottom every week, ensuring that it’s always hygienically clean and never gets to the stage where a deep clean is required.
